The urban regeneration of PKNS flats and its surrounding will focus on measures that can produce changes which will bring benefits to the scale of individuals and the community. To design an environment that feels more welcoming, people oriented, and inclusive. The strategies chosen aim to build links between social and economic values for the community. Economic regeneration strategies are needed to be made through intersectoral process in order to create the opportunities for healthy development.
The vision for this project is focusing on the strong community bond and their sense of place. To maintain the community bond and enhance living quality by giving the residents the essential tools to maintain a sufficient way of living. Helping them reduce traffic, enhance their chances to sell their products at the weekly market or daily stalls, provide opportunities for the youth and health care for the elderly.
At the same time, this project will address improving the appearance of the access points, nodes, streets and buildings. It will enhance the experience of public spaces to achieve a successful public realm. For the time being, some of the major issues include the differences in pavement levels and the lack of clear pedestrian route, restricting mobility to people using wheelchairs and people pushing buggies. Lack of bicycle lanes, lack of street furniture and the dominance of cars will be solved. The quality of appearance along the main street will be improved and is conducive for people to enjoy spending time outdoors.
